Can You Save a Marriage?

Can this marriage be saved? Here's Your Guide to SuccessIs it always possible to save a marriage?  Some counselors will say “no”.

They sometimes say that the two of you could decide to accept that the relationship has ended and move on with your lives.  That’s what you could do.  It’s sort of the easy way out to just give up.

People who have happy marriages work to keep them that way.  Relationships are not easy.  Living with another person is always hard.  There will always need to be concessions and compromises.

If you lived alone for a while before you got married, you may need to change many of your own behaviors in order to make your spouse more comfortable.  You also need to be able to express your needs.

Think about how much it is going to cost for the two of you to live separately.  There are divorced couples who have continued to live in the same house together, because they simply cannot afford two separate residences.

Those are logical, not emotional things to talk about.  But at this point, choosing safe logical subjects can help save a marriage.
The more you learn about good communication skills and happy relationships, the better off you will be in the future, no matter what happens.  They don’t teach relationship skills in school.

If you grew up in a broken home or an unhappy one, you couldn’t learn the necessary skills at home.  These are skills you will need to learn now.

Saying you are sorry could be the first step back.  Recognizing the mistakes that have been made and working together to change the behaviors that caused them is sometimes all it takes to save a marriage.
